Held Within
2026
Held Within captures the fragile moment where strength and vulnerability coexist. The figure appears suspended within a dense network of threads, emerging slowly from the material before dissolving back into it. Nothing is directly outlined; the body reveals itself progressively through tension, light, and absence.
The raised posture suggests both restraint and surrender, as if the figure is caught between holding on and letting go. Certain areas remain sharply present while others fade almost completely, creating a constant oscillation between visibility and disappearance.
From a distance, the work resolves into a human presence. Up close, it fragments into thousands of intersecting lines, transforming the image into a vibrating structure of tension and movement. The piece invites a slower gaze, where perception shifts continuously depending on distance, light, and attention.
Through Held Within, Lionel Nemeth continues his exploration of the body not as a fixed form, but as something unstable, emotional, and constantly emerging from chaos.
