Lionel Nemeth is a self-taught Belgian artist working with a contemporary form of figurative string art. Through the tension of thread, he explores the beauty and presence of the female body, revealing form through light, density, and balance.
His work is based on a simple principle: the figure is never drawn directly. Instead, it gradually emerges from the accumulation of thousands of black threads stretched between hundreds of nails. Line after line, variations in density create shadows, volumes, and curves, allowing the body to appear.
Up close, the artwork reveals a vibrant network of lines and tensions. From a distance, the figure becomes clear with striking precision, almost photographic. This interplay between abstraction and appearance lies at the heart of his artistic approach.
Each piece is entirely handmade. The process is repetitive, precise, and patient, requiring thousands of thread passes and many hours of work to reach the final balance.
Nemeth’s works explore the tension between fragility and strength, structure and emotion. The bodies appear suspended within the material, revealed through light and density.
All artworks are original, signed, and unique pieces. Each composition is created to never be reproduced.
Lionel Nemeth works at a slow pace, producing only a limited number of pieces each year.
